Picture an ivy clad 16th century manor house, with stone mullion windows and a pretty cottage garden. Set in the historic Ribble Valley, only a few minutes walk through fields to the River Ribble, surrounded by splendid views of magical Pendle Hill, and the hills and rolling countryside of the Yorkshire Dales. Then you will have transported yourself to the Stirk House Hotel, the venue for our forthcoming Wedding Ceremony, Breakfast and Evening Reception. The charming and ancient villages of Bowland are a few minutes drive away, each with its own character and history. In the opposite direction the witch country villages of Pendle will hold you spellbound as you trace the final journey of the Lancashire witches. In between stands Clitheroe, a solid, bustling market town, dominated by its castle-keep that was the site of a Civil War rebellion, it now houses a museum of local life. Walk from the hotel along the Ribble Way, passing through villages with ancient abbeys and Roman forts, or see the unparalleled countryside that shifts the river from pastureland to peak, culminating in the river source at Ribble Head. Here is the famous Ribble Head viaduct that carries the Settle~Carlisle railway and stands as a triumph of engineering still. Then return to Stirk House for dinner in the restaurant Stirk House also has its own in-house leisure facility, the Ribble Valley Country Club.
