CHARLES ARTHUR JENNINGS
Arthur was born 27th February 1891 at Albion Cottages, Barlborough, Nr. Chesterfield.
NOTE: Albion Cottages stood in the car-park of The Apollo public house off the High Street.
He was born out of wedlock to his mother Clara Jennings, but it it not known who his father was.
Clara later married Frederick White from Chesterfield, and they had another two children - Laura and John William

He enlisted into the Notts & Derby Regiment during the World War 1 and saw action on the Western Front with D Company of the 2/5th Battalion.
Army Service number: 24582 - Private.
On 21st March 1918, during heavy German
bombardment of the trenches around Noreuil-Ervillers
he was
wounded and captured. It was not until after the War ended, that his survival
was actually known.
He was shown in Red Cross records (dated 1st Dec 1918) as "missing in action" "presumed a POW".
We now know he spent 9 months as a Prisoner of War.
Upon his return home, he married Mary Anne Grundy on 23rd April 1919 at Barlborough Church.
