William Dowd

3rd eldest son of Patrick and Ellen

William was born 31st December 1892 in West Auckland. He served with the Notts & Derby Regiment in the 1st World War.

He married Jane Ann Whitworth (b.1896) in 1920

William is the only family member (as far as I know) to have used the name O'Dowd instead of Dowd.

Why...?  No one knows.  He was born a Dowd, joined the army as a Dowd, signed his name as Dowd, but on his headstone (see headstones) he uses O'Dowd

William passed away 20th January 1967 age 74 , and Jane Ann 25th September 1955 age 59

William, along with numerous family members was a "hawker" by trade
